we spent the weekend in the garden. we planted our community garden, which we share with three other families. it feels so good to be digging in the earth, watching the seedlings settle in, and seeing some seed emerge. it is so great to be able to share the work, have others to help entertain the kids so we can really get work done, and enjoy company while we work.
when we came home, we watered our own garden and the kids played in the sandbox (a daily ritual). jack calls it his work site, and diligently breaks apart the dirt to "make new concrete". he continually runs into roots from the nasty hack berry trees that provide our only shade. he finally busted up a really big root. he was so proud of himself, but perhaps he felt some guilt as well because while praying in bed he said,
"thank you God for the special day. if the world changes tonight, dad and i died the hack berry tree"
